Argus Control System Features Argus Logo
The Argus control system being installed in the PCF offers greatly enhanced control and alarm functions as well as extensive data logging cababilities. The new control system includes wet bulb/dry bulb sensors that offer reliable operation and accurate temperature and humidity sensing.

Phase 1 Fall 1996
Installation of the first phase of the PCF control system upgrade was completed in November 1996. This phase includes the Master Controller (which serves as the network hub for the system) and 3 autonomous controllers (microprocessors). Nine rooms (1401 through 1409, 1802 though 1806, and 1902) are now operating with the new Argus control system.

New alarm functions of the Argus system have already proven to be very valuable. The system called the PCF staff early in the morning last January (1/12/1997). The hot water circulating pumps went off (this meant there was no heat in any of the PSL greenhouse rooms). The staff was alerted in time to find the problem and contact O&M to restart the pumps before temperatures in the greenhouse fell to damaging levels.

Phase 2

Fall 1997
Phase 2 of the Argus upgrade added 4 Argus controllers to the PSL greenhouse (to control 14 rooms: 1602 through 1606 and both 1700 wings). The system was also extended into the Turner Hall greenhouse. Two controllers in the Turner Hall greenhouse provide full control for 5E4 and temperature alarm functions for the other 30 rooms in that greenhouse. The Argus alarm system is also able to provide temperature logs for all Turner Hall greenhouse rooms.

Phase 3

Fall 1998
Phase 3 of the Argus upgrade will add 4 Argus controllers to the PSL greenhouse to control 17 rooms: 1501 though 1503, 1515 through 1521, 1615 through 1621, and 1808 through 1818.
